70 buses ferry participants daily to congress’ venue

MANILA, Jan. 27, 2010?Participants to the 2nd National Congress of the Clergy (NCC II) being held at World Trade Center in Manila are assured of their daily transport to the congress’ venue for the duration of the national congress.

Transport companies have provided 70 buses, vans and 20-seater vehicles to ferry participants to the venue in the morning and back to their foster families in the evening.

NCC II transport Committee head Fr. Tony Navarette, parish priest of San Juan Nepomuceno Parish has asked the coordination of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) who tapped the services of bus companies.

Transportation and Communications Undersecretary Thompson C. Lantion said Secretary Leandro R. Mendoza has instructed him and his staff to extend all the possible assistance to support the more than 5,500 priests from all over the country who are attending the national congress.

“We have coordinated with service operators in air, sea and land transport business to see to it [that] the priests would be able to travel to Manila for the occasion,” Lantion told CBCPNews and Catholic Media Network in an interview.

The DOTC official said volunteers from their department have been fielded to complement MMDA and Pasay City traffic enforcers.

Special permits have also been issued in favor of the bus companies serving the participants starting Monday, the first day of the congress until Friday, January 29, he added. (Melo M. Acuna)
